Two taken to hospital after Fostoria house fire

Two persons were transported to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital and three pets were killed Thursday night in connection with a fire on the 300 block of East Center Street in Fostoria. A news release from the Fostoria Fire Division said the incident, reported at 7:13 p.m., Thursday, remains under investigation. The release said fire-division crews saw fire from the west side of the structure upon arrival and extinguished the main fire. An occupant of the house went inside prior to firefighters' arrival in an effort to rescue the pets but was unsuccessful and was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and burns to one of his hands, the news release said, adding that a second person was taken to the hospital with no visible injuries. No firefighters required treatment, according to the news release. Off-duty Fostoria firefighters were summoned and Tiffin firefighters assisted. The release reported that search for additional fire or hotspots was extensive to the interior construction and the extent of the blaze. Crews remained at the scene for about three hours, according to the release.
