Humane Society running low on supplies

The Humane Society of Seneca County is running low on critical supplies. This includes items such as bath-size towels or larger, dish soap, bleach, Purina Cat Chow, and wet kitten food. The shelter has been full nearly all of this year. Currently the shelter has 100 animals that include cats, dogs, and two pet rats. The Humane Society of Seneca County is a non-profit so donations are a huge help to maintain the animals. Speaking with the manager, Michelle Tiell, she explained that donations usually keep the shelter stocked on supplies. Items such as towels, for instance, are not always reusable so these items are more in need of. Tiell also explained that donations can be dropped off to the shelter during open hours. There is also a dog house at the front doors where donations can be placed in. They also have Amazon and Chewy wishlists. Donations are a great help for the shelter, but people can also help by donating their time. Volunteers get to give the animals extra attention as well as help with tasks such as laundry and keeping the kennels clean throughout the day. "As a non-profit we couldn't operate without the generosity of the community. Because we don't receive federal, state, or local funding the donations we receive from the public are how we are able to feed the animals, pay the monthly bills, and treat all the special needs cases that come in. We truly wouldn't be able to keep the doors open without the support of this community," Angie Leonard, Director, stated. The Humane Society of Seneca County is open Tuesday through Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information about donations and volunteering call the shelter at 419-447-5704.
