Support our cheerleaders My name is Susan Young. In the last four weeks, I have visited almost every business in our fair city of Fostoria. I asked to hang up fliers advertising a spaghetti dinner benefiting the Fostoria High School competition cheerleaders. I also solicited donations to make raffle baskets. I wanted to maximize my money making potential. Not only did most businesses hang the fliers — but they were very generous. Some gave, who couldn't afford to give. They really dug deep. True Fostoria spirit came shining through — you do me proud. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Our dinner raised $960. Although this was a wonderful thing, it barely put a dent in what we needed. Over Christmas break 'our' cheerleaders made their way to the Citrus Bowl to perform at half time. They competed and won the National Championship. Hoorah! Yay! Yay! This is an amazing accomplishment. This feat qualifies 'our' young women to compete in the international competition in Orlando, Florida March 12-16. This is a rare opportunity for these girls who have worked so hard to perform their craft. We should be so proud to have them represent Fostoria. I have heard some nasty rumors about our town and school and who and what we represent. As of late, we seem to be 'never-do-wells' in comparison to our neighboring schools. Football, baseball, basketball, volleyball — both boys and girls teams — just can't seem to win. These girls have done something unheard of — unprecedented and yes cheerleading is a sport! Have you ever really watched them perform? Dallas cheerleaders have nothing on us! Hours and hours of practice and drills. Real teamwork. Where this is going is — please, please support these young ladies. They come from 'us' and are going into the 'real' world to represent us. They need all of us to help the them achieve their dream. They have put in the work. Let us put in the support. Every single dollar counts. Let's pull together yet again and show the world who Fostoria really is and what we can do when we come together. If we want our children to succeed — we need to help them and lead by example. Stop talking and do something. Attention world, Fostoria may be down but don't count us out. Our town is not dead and neither are we! Remember the 'Great City of Fostoria'? We will rise again. The cheerleaders will lead us. Look out world. Here we come. Susan Young Fostoria
