Did you see these outlandish 2025 football predictions?

The college football season is finally over. It should be as it is January. The NFL will have to wait until February to finish up, but you have to admit it has been a very interesting "fall" in the world of football.Did the season meet your expectations? Perhaps the college season exceeded your wildest fantasies. If you are an Indiana fan, that surely would be the case. The NFL season has been filled with injuries and disappointments as well as a myriad of coaching changes. We'll get to that later.Perhaps you did not see the predictions for 2025 that were made back in the summer before the respective seasons began. I'll share them with you and let you decide if there would be any reason to believe them… however, all of them came true. Let's take a look.1. Ohio State will go undefeated in the regular season and then lose the Big Ten Championship game and it's first playoff contest.No one could have predicted this. OSU fans would believe the first part, but not the other two. Those who do not like the Buckeyes might agree with the last two, but not the first part.As we all know that is exactly what happened. Here's a random thought. Since the two OSU losses were to the two teams that played for the national championship – wouldn't that make the Buckeyes the third best team in the nation? Again, it's just a thought.2. Indiana will go undefeated, win the Big Ten Championship and the National Championship.Even the most ardent Hoosiers fan might not have been brave enough to make this prediction, but might hope that it could happen. Many thought last season was a fluke. Curt Cignetti took over a program that historically had lost more games than nearly every other program and went 27-2 including that undefeated national championship this past week.Is the job Cignetti did worthy of being called a miracle? I wouldn't necessarily argue with that. Congrats to the Hoosiers. The championship game was an instant classic.3. The Big Ten will win its third consecutive national title with a different team each time.This one is the most believable prediction. If Ohio State does not repeat and Michigan does not appear, then you would pin your hopes on Indiana and Oregon. Lo and behold the prediction came true and speaking for all Big Ten fans in this neck of the woods… take that SEC!4. The only AFC North coach that will return for the 2026 season will be the Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor.This prediction would be more believable if the word NOT appeared between will and return. Zac Taylor was on the hot seat. John Harbaugh was firmly entrenched in Baltimore as was Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh. Kevin Stefanski was somewhere in between as the coach of the Cleveland Browns.Yet when the regular season ended Stefanski was fired as was Harbaugh. Tomlin stepped down and the Bengals said we will stand pat. Who would have thought it?5. The AFC Championship game will pit Mike versus Sean for the right to go to the Super Bowl. The NFC Championship game will pit Mike versus Sean for the right to go to the Super Bowl.I doubt if anyone even considered making this prediction and though it is strange to think that only two first names would be found among the four coaches still alive in the playoffs, perhaps this prediction is not that far fetched.Mike Vrabel will take the New England Patriots to Denver to battle Sean Payton and the Broncos. Sean McVay will head to Seattle to take on the Mike Macdonald led Seahawks. You had some other opportunities to make this dream come true. There was Mike McDaniel in Miami, Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh and Sean McDermott in Buffalo. All good choices to still be playing this late in the seasonAlas all three of those guys will not be back next year. At least they won't be coaching the same team. Will it be Sean v. Sean or Mike v. Mike in the Super Bowl or will we see one of each? Go ahead and make your predictions.Finally, there were 10 coaches in the NFL that were fired or stepped down. Harbaugh was hired by another team. Same for Stefanski. I would expect McDermott to resurface as an NFL head coach next year as well.Given the ultimate goal for every franchise – to win the Super Bowl – and the propensity for teams to hire fired coaches, I think I have a solution. Make a rule that only the Super Bowl champion coach keeps his job. All the rest get their names thrown in a hat and teams get to select one at random.I know, I know. This is silly. But it is a proposal not a prediction. If it were a prediction, it would be as outlandish as the ones above.However, I might add that all the others came true!
