TCS superintendent search moves forward

TIFFIN — The Tiffin City Schools superintendent position has seen a series of leadership changes over the last decade, and a search is now underway for a permanent replacement for former Superintendent Jerry Nadeau. Nadeau, who was hired in 2024 and resigned in December 2025 citing family reasons, was the seventh person to lead the district since 2014. The school board is currently working with the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center (NCOESC) to find a candidate who can provide long-term stability for the district. The search comes after 10 years of frequent turnover in the district's top office. The history of the position includes Vickie Wheatley, who served from 2014 to 2017. Following her departure, she filed a lawsuit against the district and the board alleging gender discrimination and retaliation, which was settled in 2019 under undisclosed terms. Gary Barber succeeded Wheatley in 2017 but resigned in July 2020 following a series of OVI charges. James Grubb then served a one-year contract as an interim. In 2021, the district initially hired Van McWreath, but withdrew the offer after he was charged in a domestic incident. Michael Zalar subsequently took the role until 2022, followed by Ben Richards, who served until 2024. Nadeau served as interim before being named to the permanent role, which he held until his resignation two months ago. The board recently appointed Greg Williamson as interim superintendent through the end of the school year. Williamson, a retiring superintendent from Leipsic Local Schools, began his duties Feb. 2. In a statement regarding the ongoing search, the Tiffin City Board of Education said the application deadline was Jan. 26 and that it plans to move quickly. "The original plan was an aggressive one as we hope to interview during the month of February with the hope of offering a contract by the end of February or early March," the board stated. "With that said, the extreme weather we have been experiencing may play into the interview process, but the Tiffin School Board will be active to secure the services of the next superintendent to lead our district forward."
