Tiffin Rotary President-elect Phil Moerdyk opened the February 4th meeting at the Chandelier Event Center. This was our second Rotary Digest Meeting, which are at 7 a.m. the first Wednesday of every month at the Chandelier. He then offered an opening prayer. Dave Weininger brought his wife Lynda and Nancy Weaver joined us from Florida via Zoom. Attendance today was 14. The Basket Fund raised $19. Dave Weininger won the Weekly Drawing and Anne Lange DeVine won the Free Meal. Celebrating birthdays were: Keith Hodkinson, Molly Lofton, Tom Zirm, Susan Wilkinson, Mark Somodi, Jeff Feasel and Clark Hutson. Anne Lange DeVine reported that 832 tickets were sold with 11 comped. The 50/50 raised $500 and the event netted around an amazing $21,000! Service Co-chair Dave Weininger noted that the club would provide bagging service for the Non-food Pantry March 17. Lee Martin talked about his experience with the Rotary Reading Buddies at Krout School. Phil Moerdyk suggested our club consider completing a Community Needs Assessment to help us determine what it is we want to accomplish during the next 100 years of Rotary. Anne Lange DeVine suggested that we might consider providing funds for individual's needs as opposed to organizational needs. Mimi Johnston suggested that whatever we decide to do we consider using students from our local universities as resources. Keith Hodkinson suggested studying Rotary's Community Service Corps for ideas. More discussion will take place at future meetings. Country Clovers 4-H ClubThe first meeting of the Country Clovers 4-H Club was Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, at the Junior Fair Building. Introductions were made, and pledges were stated. The club discussed the calendar, club apparel, online registration, Cloverbuds program, Green card fundraiser, Christmas lights displays and Quality Assurance. The club discussed how to celebrate Ohio 4-H Week and decided to light the justice center cupola green and wear 4-H shirts to school March 20. Members worked in small groups to brainstorm ideas for the year. The officers were elected. American Legion Riders Post No. 169 Director Jim Schleter opened the February meeting of the American Legion Riders Post No. 169. The secretaries report given by Barbara Trapp was read and approved. Jim Trapp gave the treasurers report and it stood approved. We were reminded that the yearly dues are due now. A thank you was read from the Sons for a donation to their golf outing. The corned beef and cabbage dinner sponsored by the auxiliary on March 14 was discussed. Dinners will cost $10.00 and a sign up sheet will be put out. There will be a feather party following the dinner. All are welcome. The March 28 Easter party for the children was discussed. A motion was made to donate towards the buying of Easter baskets and the motion passed. Seneca Pens and Friends 4-H President Hadley Pachlhofer called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ava Foos, while the 4-H pledge was led by Erin Daniel. There were 12 members, 3 advisors and 2 parents present. Ava Foos made a motion to accept the secretary's report, seconded by Molly Daniel, minutes accepted. Erin Daniel made a motion to accept the treasurer's balance of $348.03 seconded by Lola Wilson, balance accepted. Old Business The Club had received a Gold Rating instead of a Silver, as previously stated, earning a $15.00 check. Officers will be elected at the March 8 meeting. Molly Daniel made a motion to have quality assurance at 1 p.m. before the March 8 meeting, seconded by Lola Wilson, motion passed. Nataleigh Wilson made a motion to have the club bring their own t-shirts and design ideas to vote on at the next meeting, seconded by Molly Daniel, motion passed. Molly Daniel made a motion for the club to participate in the 4-H Open House, seconded by Lola Wilson, motion passed. Molly Daniel made a motion to make flower arrangements for Good Shepherd and St. Francis as a community service project, seconded by Aria Schalk motion passed. Molly Daniel made a motion to donate $25 to the Sencea County Fair this year, seconded by Lola Wilson, motion passed. Signup sheets for refreshments, demonstrations, and safety talks were handed out at the meeting. Molly Daniel made a motion to adjourn the meeting seconded by Lola Wilson, motion passed. April 7 the auxiliary will be hosting the bingo at Ohio Veterans Home. A $100 donation for bingo prizes was motioned and the motion passed. Anyone wishing to attend the bingo can contact an auxiliary member for time and details. The American 250th birthday celebration will be discussed Feb. 21 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Historical Octagon House, 7618 North Township Road 32 Clyde. A representative from the American Legion No. 169 will be there. Anyone wanting to attend is welcome. This is to bring together the organizations and businesses that wish to participate in the county and city wide celebration. The Riders next meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 9 in the post home. Seneca County Master Gardener Association The Seneca County Master Gardener Association held their general monthly meeting on February 10th. Once again in 2026, we will be offering a $500 Scholarship Award to a high school graduate of Seneca County who is pursuing a field of study involving horticulture science. To be eligible, the applicant must be either a graduate of a Seneca County high school, a high school graduate with a permanent address within Seneca County or currently attending college but has a permanent address within Seneca County and who is pursuing a field of study involving plant science. (Agronomy, Botany, Horticulture, Landscaping, Forestry, etc.). Application packets are due to the scholarship committee by March 15th, 2026. The Seneca County Master Gardeners would like to invite the public to join us at our spring event Classical Elements-Earth, Water, Air, and Fire Conference on March 21, 2026, 9:00 AM-3:00 PM at the Allen Eiry Senior Center, 28 Hopewell Ave., Tiffin, Ohio 44883. We have a great line-up of expert speakers about each of the elements. A light breakfast, boxed lunch and snacks will be provided. The cost is $50 per person. The 2026 Master Gardener Volunteers new member classes are currently forming. Applications are accepted through October 1st.The class will run from October 2026-July 2027. The format is a style of hybrid learning opportunities with online courses and in person labs. Online lectures will be available for the students to move through the course at their convenience. Face to face speakers, field trips, and hands-on events are also incorporated into the curriculum. Each member will have an assigned mentor for any questions and guidance for the duration of the training period. President Doug Switzer called the meeting to order, led the Toastmasters Mission, reviewed the agenda and introduced Tom Burwell as Toastmaster for the evening. Jessica Lang provided the opening and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Lang also provided a humorous story. Wordmaster Laurel Lilly presented the word, "besmirch" meaning to damage someone's reputation, name, or honor. Lilly continued as Tabletopic Master with the following questions for the members. Suzanne Black — What makes love last? Lang — What is the best part of being you? Burwell — What good comes from suffering? The first speaker for the evening was Switzer presenting his International Speech Contest speech, "The Soles of Life". Donna Teague followed with her speech entitled, "Look Before You Open that Door?" General Evaluator Suzanne Black began a round robin evaluation of Switzer's speech and then provided her evaluation. Jim Black provided the evaluation for Teague's speech. Teague provided the Grammarian's report and Jim Black provided the Timer's report. President Switzer conducted a short business meeting. There was discussion about increasing membership and various literature packets are being created by the Executive Board. Suzanne Black provided the closing. Guests are always welcome to attend a meeting to learn what Toastmasters is all about. The next meeting will be February 24 at the same time and location. American Legion Auxiliary No. 169 Tiffin was opened by President Mary Ann Boehler. Prayer was given by Chaplain, Denise Mullennex. The Pledge of Allegiance and preamble were led by Boehler. Roll call found six members in attendance. Secretary Barbara Trapp read the minutes of the last meeting and they stood approved with one correction. Our girl for Buckeye Girls State is Anne Young. Treasurer, Karen Kotnik read her report and it stood approved. Buckeye Girls state will receive our paperwork and payment to register Anne Young as our representative this year. Communication was read from district president Nancy Longbrake. She thanked everyone for their hard work and reminded us of upcoming projects to work on. MaryAnn Boehler will start working on reports at the end of March. Anyone with paperwork to report needs to get it handed in. Mary Ann Boehler reported on the March 14 corned beef and cabbage dinner. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. A $10 price per meal was agreed on. Each dinner will have the entree, bread and butter, and dessert. Following the dinner will be a feather party. All are welcome. A sign-up sheet will be up at the post so we have an idea as to how many meals to make. Denice Mullennex reported on the children's Easter party. A sign-up sheet will be available March 1 and come down by March 20. A pizza party is planned with egg coloring, and a pinata game. Due to weather restrictions there will be no egg hunt this year. Party will be from 1-3 p.m. March 28. April 7, 2026 will be our turn to sponsor bingo at Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. Along with a donation for bingo prizes we will bring three baskets to raffle off to the veterans. The baskets will be a game night basket, a personal care basket and a movie night basket. The national American Legion auxiliary is sponsoring a 250 challenge. Each auxiliary can determine how to earn 250 miles, hours, dollars , or whatever they come up with. The categories to work with are personal health, mental health, and community service. Each challenge can be done by one auxiliary member or as a unit. One suggestion was to walk 250 miles or hours at the Tiffin University track. This is to commemorate America's 250th birthday. Bring your suggestions to the next meeting.
