Raiders stun Old Fort with 3-point barrage

KANSAS — Lakota controlled the first half and Ruger Kelbley hit five of his team's 10 3-pointers Thursday in a 52-38 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division win against Old Fort.The Raiders (12-8, 8-4 SBC) did most of their damage in the first half from long range, connecting on eight 3-pointers to enter the break with a 29-17 lead.Kelbley and Jack Widman each drained a trio of treys in the opening half to fuel the breakout, helping Lakota avenge a 50-27 loss from earlier in the season.Kelbley and King Beard both finished with 15 points, Widman wound up with nine and Avery Shilling added seven.Isaac Gallagher led the Stockaders (13-7, 10-3) with 17 points, but none of his teammates scored more than five.Henry Beisner grabbed eight rebounds. IV No. 2 Bellevue.The Lady Red hit 10 triples in the first quarter and 13 for the game, clinching the outright Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division title with an 89-16 win over Sandusky on Thursday.Bellevue improved to 21-0 overall and 9-0 in league play. Just one game separates the Lady Red from an undefeated regular season.The league championship is the Lady Red's 16th in a row. Rams rally for sectional crownFOSTORIA — Upper Sandusky clawed its way past Liberty-Benton in the baker games to claim the Division II sectional title Thursday at Bowlero Lanes in just its second year as a program.The Rams, fourth at last year's sectional, took the crown by a 3,232-3,173 margin after trailing L-B most of the day.Liberty-Benton ended the opening round with 22-pin lead (2,253-2,231) before pushing the advantage to 36 pins (2,580-2,534) after the first two baker games; the Eagles rolled 189 and 138 while Upper Sandusky had 149 and 154.The Rams inched ahead 2,729-2,721 after bettering L-B 195-141 in the third baker game, but the Eagles countered with a 159-147 score in the fourth baker game to regain a slim 2,880-2,876 advantage.But Upper Sandusky pulled away from there, bettering L-B 187-166 and 169-127 in the final two baker games for the championship.Bucyrus upended Wynford 2,996-2,896 for third in the team standings, with both also advancing to the district tournament.The top four teams and top four players not on those teams qualified for the Feb. 17 district tournament at Interstate Lanes in Rossford.Hopewell-Loudon took sixth (2,571), with Lakota (2,387), Fostoria (2,336), Old Fort (2,208) and New Riegel (2,008) finishing eighth through 11th.Melanie Bowen fueled the champion Rams with a three-game series of 536 (163, 207, 166).Brynn Routzahn backed her with a 474 series (158, 181, 135), Olivia Griswold rolled a 425 (106, 170, 149) and Lily Swartz tallied a 345 (136, 125, 134).
