Columbian students take shelter after wind damages roof

TIFFIN — Students at Tiffin-Columbian High School were instructed to take shelter on Friday afternoon following significant damage to the building as a result of high winds. Officers on the scene were able to confirm with The Advertiser-Tribune that there were no reported injuries to students — this was also later confirmed by police Chief David Pauly in a press release. For public safety, South Monroe Street was to remain closed at Charlotte Street for the remainder of Friday night while crews addressed debris and damage. Police asked motorists to avoid the area, and for pedestrians to use caution due to the potential debris. According to the National Weather Service, strong winds with gusts between 44-60 mph were to continue through Friday night. Residents were encouraged to remain indoors until the system passed and to secure any outdoor items that could become airborne.
