Detroit man pleads guilty to assaulting federal officer

SANDUSKY — A Detroit man pleaded guilty Thursday to assaulting a federal officer in Sandusky County in October 2024. The U.S. Attorney's Office noted that Damarko Amir Kimble, 29, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employers, according to a news release from the U.S. Northern District Court of Ohio. Background According to court documents, on Oct. 7, 2024, federal agents encountered Kimble at a service plaza parking lot along the Intertstate 80/90 turnpike in Sandusky County. Kimble's rental vehicle had expired registration tags, the release states. A K-9 officer assisting the agents alerted to the presence of illegal substances in Kimble's vehicle. Agents then conducted a probable cause search of his car and found a backpack on the rear floorboard. Inside, agents discovered a plastic bag that was suspected — and later confirmed — to contain 577.7 grams of pure methamphetamine. As agents tried to arrest Kimble, he charged at one of them to knock him over, knocking him to the ground. Kimble attempted to flee but was apprehended, the release states. Kimble is scheduled to be sentenced on July 14, where a federal court judge will determine the sentence after considering U.S. sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. The investigation that led to the indictment was carried out by the U.S. Border Patrol Sandusky Bay Station. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dexter L. Phillips for the Northern District of Ohio is leading the prosecution, the release states.
