Rams race off to Blue Devil Relay crownCAREY — Jocelyn Leightey claimed the mile and Upper Sandusky set a meet record in one of the five relay events it won Saturday en route to capturing the girls crown at the Carey Blue Devil Relays.The Rams outpaced Riverdale 140-103 for the team championship in the eight-team meet.Hopewell-Loudon held off Carey 77-72 for fourth, and Calvert came in sixth (57).Fifteen of the 17 events were competed in relay form, with just the mile and freshman mile held as individual events.Leightey won the mile in 5:47.35.Rams Arielle O'Flaherty, Jayden Richards, Shiloh Shasteen and Jillian Stansbery set a meet record of 1:49.47 by winning the 4x200. Wood sparks Mohawk's run to thirdPLYMOUTH — Kolton Wood earned his rest Saturday.The Mohawk sophomore led off the champion 4x800 team, ran the 1,600-meter anchor of the winning distance medley, claimed second in the 1,600 and anchored the team that took third in the 4x400.That 4,400-meter effort helped Mohawk claim third Saturday at the Plymouth Memorial with 76 points.East Knox beat Lucas 88-80 for the team crown,. Buckeye Central ended 10th (28) in the 13-team meet.Jett Loesser and Phoenix Nally joined Wood on the 4x800 (9:04.64) and distance medley (11:47.91) title teams. Nolan Kirgis filled out the 4x800 and Mason Schimpf rounded out the distance medley.Wood (4:59.34) and Nally (5:02.8) crossed the line second and third in the 1,600.Schimpf, Nally, Loesser and Wood competed in the 4x400 (3:46.21).John Stansberry added a third in the 100 (12.12) and an eighth in the 200 (26.17).Loesser took fourth in the 800 (2:12.87), and Eli Chevalier added a fourth in the shot (40-0 1/4) and a fifth in the discus (123-1).Kole Russell turned in a fifth for the Warriors in the 3,200 (13:04.0).Sixths went to Schimpf in the 100 (12.33), and the 4x200 team of Evan Mullholand, Riley Coffman, Kasey Coffman and Deegan McLaughlin (1:46.2).Timmy Horner finished seventh in the 3,200 (13:09.88), as did the 4x100 team of Mullholand, Riley Coffman, Troy Johnson and McLaughlin (50.09).Johnson also ended eighth in the 300 hurdles (49.05).Collin Perry led Buckeye Central by taking second in the long jump (18-6), fourth in the 100 (12.27), fifth in the high jump (5-6) and seventh in the 200 (25.74).Donnie Fourtney added a fourth in the long jump (16-10) for the Bucks, and Chance Hawley finished fifth in the shot (39-2). Buckettes go 1-2 in relaysPLYMOUTH — Buckeye Central's girls won one relay and ran second in another Saturday to lead area efforts at the Plymouth Memorial.Willard upended Loudonville 108-94 for the team championship. Buckeye Central scored 35 points for seventh in the 13-team field, and Mohawk ended 11th (18).Phoebe Dallas, Angela Figueroa, Jenna Cianflone and Sarah Martin won the 4x800 (11:37.91) for the Buckettes, and claimed runner-up honors in the 4x400 (4:43.75).Buckeye Central also got fourths from Samantha Auck in the 3,200 (14:44.31), as well as the distance medley team of Auck, Sarah Martin, Cianflone and Figueroa (15:07.32).Dallas added a sixth in the high jump (4-6) and an eighth in the long jump (12-11 1/2).Eva Beeson, Andi Hiler, Konatsu Higashi and Averie Tackett took sixth in the 4x100 (1:01.6).Mohawk's Emerson Gurney, Avalynn Elliott, Cara Peterson and Eva Johnson crossed the line third in the distance medley (15:05.26), while Johnson added a third in the 1,600 (6:46.42).Sixths came from Gurney in the 800 (2:54.2), and the 4x200 team of Gurney, Briella Cleland, Peterson and Elliott (2:05.48).
