Rotary Club bringing Kentucky Derby to Fostoria

FOSTORIA — Spring brings blooming flowers, warmer weather and the Kentucky Derby — the longest continually held sporting event in America. This year, you can experience the excitement of the Derby right here in Fostoria. The Fostoria Rotary Club is hosting "Run for the Roses with Rotary," a fundraiser taking place from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at Kemosabe's. Guests will enjoy watching the Kentucky Derby live while connecting with community members and Rotarians dedicated to giving back. The Rotary Club has a long-standing tradition of hosting fundraising events, ranging from St. Patrick's Day and summer-themed galas to golf outings. This year's Derby fundraiser introduces a new concept designed to provide a unique, fun and engaging experience for the community in hopes to establish this as a new annual tradition. The Derby event will feature casino-style games, entertainment and food as well as a lively social atmosphere that gives opportunities to connect and enjoy a night out. The Rotary Club is encouraging guests to dress in their favorite Derby attire — think bold hats, classic styles and Southern charm — to add to the overall experience. Whether guests are coming to enjoy the races, the games or simply a night out, the Rotary Club is welcoming everyone to be part of an evening focused on fun with purpose. Tickets are $50 each and will include heavy hors d'oeuvres and $25 in play money. All proceeds will support local efforts led by the Fostoria Rotary Club, including student scholarships, youth programs and community initiatives. "This fundraiser is highly important to our club. Without fundraising efforts like this, the Fostoria Rotary would not be able to support the many projects we take pride in throughout our community. Every dollar helps us continue making a meaningful impact right here in Fostoria," said Brittany Tiell, club president.
