Republican women's group hosting America 250 event

TIFFIN — Seneca County Republican Women will host an event June 6 to celebrate America's 250th anniversary and our country's veterans. The date corresponds with the anniversary of the D-Day invasion, which occurred June 6, 1944. Susan Platt, SCRW president, said she and her husband have attended the annual D-Day celebration in Normandy, France, as well as similar events in the United States. "We felt that it really needs to be celebrated," Platt said. The upcoming Seneca County event is modeled after France's festivities, she said, which allow visitors to feel "as if you stepped into Normandy in 1944." The June 6 celebration will be a "fun family event," including military reenactors, food trucks, music, and fireworks at dusk, she said. According to a flyer published by SCRW, the organization is seeking military vehicles, memorabilia and vendors to be part of the event. Platt said the objective is "to get the flavor and understand the sacrifice" of our military and the D-Day invasion, allowing attendees to gauge "the gravity of that day." "It's a non-partisan celebration to honor our veterans," she said. There is no cost to attend the event, which will take place at Janet and Bill Frankart's farm and party barn, 7731 Township Road 32. Festivities kick off at approximately 2 p.m. Platt said a portion of the June 6 event, including the historical aspects of the D-Day build-up, are being spearheaded by the Seneca County Club America group. Club America, she said, is an extension of Turning Point USA that allows participation by younger kids, since TP USA primarily is for college students. Seneca County's Club America, Platt said, was formed in October 2025, and consists of 25 members. The club is "very active," and officers run the meetings, write the agendas, and arrange for speakers, she said. Club America, Platt said, "is raising leaders." The group meets on the second Monday of each month at 4 p.m. at Grace Church. Platt said the club's May speaker is Anthony Watson, a 2018 Winter Olympian who represented Jamaica as the nation's first-ever skeleton athlete. Watson now works with Turning Point USA, Platt said.
