Head Shed Salon to close

TIFFIN — After 64 years of business at Westgate Shopping Center, the Head Shed Hair Salon has announced it will be closing in mid-June. Chris Nominee, co-owner of the salon with Serena Costantini, said the salon was told by the current building owner that "they are selling the building and tearing it down." Nominee said the salon's ownership, while it has changed over the years, has "always provided a great family atmosphere," and the news of the pending closure has been hard for her, Costantini and their employees. Six stylists, in addition to the owners, work at Head Shed. "At this point," she said, "almost everyone has a job they are going to head to." "I just wish we could fast-forward," Nominee said, when the salon's stylists are settled elsewhere and the process of closing is over. "Watching it break up has been heartbreaking," she said. Nominee noted the low turnover rate of stylists at the salon and the disappointment of customers whose families have been coming to Head Shed for generations. "They are crushed," she said, but "a lot of clients will follow us." Nominee said the salon was not able to consider moving because of financial reasons. She and Costantini remodeled the salon only six years ago, Nominee said, which left them unable to fund a move to a new location. "We appreciate all the love and support as we go though this rough time," Nominee said. "We thank all of you."
