Fliers, Tornadoes claim SBC crowns

NORWALK — Clyde claimed three titles and Columbian took the other two Saturday at the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division Championships.Clyde swept the doubles brackets and picked up a crown in singles play while TC's titles came in the singles bracket.Fliers Chase Castle and Oscar Webb beat Norwalk's Edward Ramos and Jack Pittenger 6-2, 6-0 for the No. 1 doubles title.Cole Sengstock and Trenton Brown defeated Norwalk's Ashton Chapman and Sam Milas 6-3, 6-2 for the No. 2 doubles crown.Aric Kauble claimed the top prize at No. 1 singles for Clyde by defeating Norwalk's Jeremiah McCreary 6-3, 6-4.All three titles came after a first-round bye and a win in the semifinals.Castle and Webb downed Bellevue's Lucas Niedermier and Preston Spurlock 6-4, 5-7, 10-6. Sengstock and Brown beat Bellevue's Sam Kinney and Konnor Smith 6-0, 6-0. Kauble defeated Columbian's Dravyn Dicken 6-1, 6-1.Brock Siesel earned the No. 2 singles championship for TC by downing Sandusky's Brady Mullins 6-3, 7-5. He reached the finals with a bye and a 6-4, 6-1 win against Bellevue's Caleb Martin.Parker Nye took the No. 3 singles title via a 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 victory against top-seeded Ishan Chopra of Sandusky. BW hands Calvert 1st lossCOLUMBUS – Calvert traveled all the way to Bishop Watterson to take on the Division III Eagles Saturday morning. The Senecas battled, but dropped their first game of the season in a pitcher's duel – 1-0.Calvert managed just four hits as AJ Shoemaker and Cameron Moyer both doubled for the Senecas (10-1). Landon King suffered the loss on the hill, allowing a run on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Vincenzo Lyons finished it out. Blue Jackets end second at Lucadello TourneyFOSTORIA — Van Buren nipped New Riegel 6-5 Saturday in the title game of the Tony Lucadello Tournament.Gabe Pugh paced the Blue Jackets (6-6) with a single and two RBIs. Sam Clouse and Derek Tiell both singled twice and scored.Luke Conley (0-1) took the loss, allowing just three hits, three walks and one hit batter. Blue Devils jump on Rams' miscuesUPPER SANDUSKY — Carey turned seven errors into four runs Saturday to double up Upper Sandusky 4-2 in Northern 10 Athletic Conference play.The Blue Devils (13-2, 7-0 N10) scored once in the top of the first, twice in the fifth and once in the sixth, while Upper Sandusky plated its runs in the bottom of the seventh.Dash Puckett doubled and drove in two runs for Carey, Garrett Hall singled twice and scored twice, Bostyn Ritter doubled and scored and Louis Watkins scored.Hall went the distance for the win, fanning six and scattering seven hits, three walks, a hit batter and two earned runs.Josh Heilman took the loss for the Rams (6-7, 4-3). VB clips StockadersVAN BUREN — Van Buren erased a six-run deficit with 10 runs over two innings, then turned away Old Fort in the seventh Saturday for a 12-10 win.Old Fort had momentum early, leading 4-2 after the second inning and 8-2 after the top of the fifth.Then the Black Knights went to work, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth and seven in the sixth to go up 12-8.Abbi Ward smacked a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to get the Stockaders within two runs, but Van Buren held on from there for the win.Ward ended 3 for 3, adding a double and four other runs.Bella Abdoo went 4 for 5 with a triple, double and two RBIs, Lucy King doubled in a run, singled in a run and scored, and Claire Hunker finished 3 for 5 with a run and four RBIs.Losing pitcher Stevie Baker and Makenna Crispen both singled, and Addy Martin, Layla Garland and Jailynn Goddard all scored. Rams rock Riverdale 13-2MOUNT BLANCHARD – Upper Sandusky scored all 13 of its runs in the first four innings Saturday to run-rule Riverdale 13-2.Madison Wengerd led the offensive charge with three singles and a pair of RBIs for the Rams (14-2), while Ava Saull, Ella Frombaugh (3 RBI) and Kadence Boes (RBI) all added two hits, Madison Hart doubled and drove in three runs and Adilyn Hessey ended with a single and an RBI.Frombaugh got the win in the circle, giving up two runs on seven hits in five innings. She struck out three and walked three.
