Ohio AG Yost announces resignation

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced his resignation on Thursday to pursue a new position in the private sector. Yost's resignation was announced in a statement from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's office. "I am grateful for Attorney General Yost's long career in public service, from serving as Delaware County Auditor, Delaware County Prosecutor, Auditor of State, to Attorney General of Ohio," DeWine said. "I wish him the best in his next endeavor." DeWine said he will consider who to appoint to replace Yost. Yost had previously campaigned for the Republican Ohio governor nomination in 2025 before dropping out of the race after the party endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy's bid for the office. In his resignation letter, which was shared by the governor's office, Yost said he was leaving to pursue another opportunity. Also on Thursday, nonprofit legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom announced Yost will join the organization as vice president for strategic research and innovation. The organization describes itself as a legal group that aims to protect religious freedom. "We are honored to welcome Attorney General Yost to ADF at this defining moment," said the company's CEO, Kristen Waggoner. "Yost is a proven, bold advocate of First Amendment freedoms who brings decades of government, policy, and litigation experience to the fight for truth — in the courtroom and the public square."
