Seneca County Discovery Series: Soap Carving — 7 p.m. May 11 at Fruth Wetland Nature Preserve, 10130 W. OH-18, Fostoria. Youth participants will learn about the traditional art of soap carving during this hands-on workshop. Attendees should bring a bar of soap, while all other materials will be provided. Preschool Pals: Wonderful Worms — 5 p.m. May 13 at Tiffin University Nature Preserve, 2471 W. CR-26, Tiffin. Children ages 3-5 will explore the trails searching for worms beneath logs and rocks. Participants will learn about worm anatomy and the role worms play in healthy ecosystems. Family Funday Friday — 6:30-8:30 p.m. May 15 at Fruth Wetland Nature Preserve, 10130 W. OH-18, Fostoria. Families are invited to enjoy an evening of games, activities, snacks and outdoor fun at the preserve. Registration is recommended, though walk-ins are welcome. Register online at senecacountyparks.com. Crawford County Bird Banding — 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9 at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 OH-598, Crestline. Visitors can observe bird banding demonstrations while learning how researchers track bird populations and migration patterns. The program will run alongside Pancakes in the Park. Pancakes in the Park — 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9 at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 OH-598, Crestline. Guests can enjoy pancakes with maple syrup and ham while supporting Crawford Park District programs. The event serves as a community fundraiser and family gathering. Feeding Day — 5:30 p.m. May 11 at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 OH-598, Crestline. Participants can help feed the Nature Center's wildlife ambassadors while learning about the diets of different animals. Foods may include fruits, vegetables, insects and other animal-specific meals. Girl Scouts: Eco Friend — 6 p.m. May 12 at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 OH-598, Crestline. Girl Scout Brownies can work toward their Eco Friend badge through hiking, observation and outdoor skills activities. Participants will also learn trail stewardship and campfire safety basics. Register online at crawfordparkdistrict.org. Hancock County Spring Migration Bird Hike — 9 a.m. May 9 at Aeraland Recreation Area, 10100 CR-40, Findlay. Participants will search for migratory birds moving through the area during spring migration season. Binoculars will be available or guests may bring their own. Wee Ones: A Bird's Journey — 10 a.m. May 11 at Oakwoods Nature Preserve, Discovery Center, 1400 Oakwood Ave., Findlay. Young children will learn about bird migration through displays, games and hands-on activities. Participants will also create a pinecone bird feeder to take home. Tadpole Tamers — 10 a.m. May 13 at Aeraland Recreation Area, 10100 CR-40, Findlay. Children will use nets to catch and observe tadpoles and other aquatic animals living in Goose Lake. Participants should wear clothing and footwear suitable for getting wet. Land Fowl — 6 p.m. May 13 at Oakwoods Nature Preserve, Discovery Center, 1400 Oakwood Ave., Findlay. Participants will learn about ground-dwelling birds such as chickens, turkeys and pheasants through displays and discussion. The program also includes a hands-on craft activity. Plein Air Gatherings — 2-4 p.m. May 14 at Eastpoint Area, 10400 CR-244, Findlay. Artists are invited to gather outdoors to paint or draw in a natural setting. Participants should bring their own supplies and dress appropriately for weather conditions. Wetland Night Hike — 9 p.m. May 15 at Bright Conservation Area, 12100 CR-180, Findlay. Participants will explore wetland trails after dark while searching for nocturnal wildlife such as frogs, owls and bats. A light trap will also be used to observe moths and other nighttime insects.
