Fostoria churches mark day of prayer

FOSTORIA — Several Fostoria area churches came together Thursday morning at Good Shepherd Home to observe the National Day of Prayer, filling the facility's chapel with residents, clergy and community members united around this year's theme: "Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations." The interdenominational service featured prayers covering a broad range of community life, with speakers drawn from various backgrounds and professions. Mark Self, pastor of Trinity United Brethren Church and a chaplain at Good Shepherd, led a prayer for the church. Jeff Clagg offered a prayer for government, while Gary Sowders, chief operating officer of Prime Fleet Services LLC and Prime Fleet Dielectric LLC, prayed for the business community. Debbie Self, a special education teacher at Fostoria Elementary School, led a prayer for education, and Brandy Gillig, a licensed practical nurse at Good Shepherd, prayed for the medical field. Master Sgt. Leah Cooper was recognized during a prayer for the military. Becky Farrand delivered a prayer for family. Chaplain Kat Siegel was also among those participating in the service. Attendees sang hymns including "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," with lyrics projected on a screen at the front of the chapel. The room included Good Shepherd residents, many in wheelchairs, alongside community members and visitors of all ages. The National Day of Prayer is observed annually on the first Thursday of May.
