Chieftains crush Redskins 14-2, advance to district final vs. Mohawk

FINDLAY – Hopewell-Loudon didn't waste any time getting the bats going Wednesday in a 14-2 win in a Division VII district semifinal at Liberty-Benton against Arcadia.The Chieftains (13-12) scored four runs in each of the first two innings and then ended things with a six-run fourth.H-L had 14 hits as Kenna Holcomb (2B, RBI) and Araceli Velasquez (RBI) each produced three hits, while Mallory Rowe belted a home run, singled and drove in four runs, Aubrey Cline singled twice and drove in a run, Rowan Clagg smoked a homer and drove in three runs and M Lust hit a dinger and drove in two runs.Velasquez was the winning pitcher with her five innings in the circle. She allowed two runs on seven hits with five punchouts and a single walk.With the victory, the Chieftains will take on Mohawk (23-3) at Buckeye Central Saturday at 2 p.m. Senecas steamroll Stockaders for 3rd timeLAKESIDE – Calvert didn't have any issues beating Old Fort for the third time this season – this time in a Division VII district semifinal that was moved to Danbury Wednesday. Gracie Miller set the tone with a leadoff homer as the Senecas run-ruled the Stockaders 10-0.With the win, the Senecas (22-3) will take on Edgerton (16-4) Saturday at noon at Bryan High School.Scarlett Faber singled twice for the Senecas, while Claire Schoenberger smacked a three-run shot and Kate Coleman singled and drove in a run.Old Fort (7-16) produced only two hits as Marah Miller and Stevie Baker both singled.Ava Eilrich picked up the pitching win, allowing those two hits in five innings with six strikeouts and a pair of walks. She bested Mylee Sebetto, who allowed 10 runs on six hits in four innings. She struck out four and walked seven. Gottfried is perfect, Warriors demolish Cubs 20-0NEW WASHINGTON – Mohawk only scored in two innings and only had seven hits. However, both of those innings were 10-run frames and Mohawk tallied 20 runs off of those seven hits as junior pitcher Aubrey Gottfried hurled a perfect game in the circle as the Warriors dismantled Lucas 20-0 in a Division VII district semi.With the win, the Warriors (23-3) will take on Hopewell-Loudon (12-12) back at Buckeye Central Saturday at 2 p.m.Gottfried struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced for the win.At the plate, Gottfried helped her own cause with a pair of singles and four RBIs, while Emily Brickner Tripled, singled and drove in three runs, Blake Miller hit a homer and drove in three runs, Woodland did the same and drove in a pair of runs, Mallory Brickner doubled and Elyn Hetzel and Katie Schock each ended with an RBI. Redmen roll past SailorsBELLEVUE – Bellevue made quick work of Vermilion Wednesday in a 10-2 Division IV sectional win.Bellevue led 4-2 after 3 ½ innings before tacking on six more combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings.The Redmen compiled 11 hits as Caden Lindsey (2B, 2 RBI), Reid Claus (2-2B, RBI) and Tatum Gore (2B) all tallied two hits, while Ike Brown smoked a dinger and drove in three runs and Sam Cooper doubled and drove in a run.Cooper Winke picked up the win on the mound, giving up two runs on two hits in 3 2/3 innings. He fanned eight and walked three. H-L then responded with four runs to take the game into extras where the Chieftains egded the Raiders, 7-6.Austin Smith led the offensive charge with a double, a single and three RBIs for H-L (19-6), while Jack Colatruglio and Jacoby Ellis each singled twice and drove in a run.Jack Widman recorded two singles for Lakota (11-10), followed by a single and two RBIs apiece from Hunter Sweeney and Reid Timmons and a single and an RBI from AJ Gosche.Smith picked up the pitching win with two scoreless relief innings. Widman suffered the loss. TC doubles team bows out of district tourneyPORT CLINTON – Columbian's Dravyn Dicken and Brock Siesel saw their tennis seasons come to an end at the Division I district tournament at Port Clinton Wednesday. The pair fell to Toledo St. John's Zennon Zaleski and Kameel Mawad 6-1, 6-1. "Though they got beat today, they had terrific seasons and did a great job of representing Columbian at the district level," TC coach Chip Weingart said.
